Tavildara in Tajikistan has been given a new name

The place names linked with Tavildara in Tajikistan have gone through two major administrative changes over the past decade.

The first came in March 2016, when the Tavildara district was officially renamed Sangvor. The name Tavildara was kept for one of the rural communities (jamoats) within the district.

The second came in 2025. The former village of Tavildara, the administrative centre of the district, was turned into an urban-type settlement and officially renamed Somondeh.

So the historical name “Tavildara” is still used in the name of the jamoat, while the former district is called Sangvor and its administrative centre is now Somondeh.
